xxSOLDxx KENTUCKY RIFLE by New York Maker J. Cooper
Tiger Maple Full Stock With Silver Wire Inlays
This is a high grade sportsman's rifle with a full strong tiger maple stock which is brass mounted with a profusion of well done silver wire inlay work on the comb, around the barrel tang, and around the sideplate panel. The rifle measures 54 1/2" overall. The four piece brass patchbox is highly engraved in the neatest manner. The engraving on this rifle would put Jacob Kunz rifles to shame. In addition, there are 9 silver inlays throughout including a neat engraved pointing bird dog inlay above the cheek piece. The original percussion lock is very high grade with "J. COOPER" engraved on the lock plate. "NEW YORK" is engraved in the top flat of the 38 7/8" full octagon smooth bore barrel which is approximately .45 cal. The barrel is fastened to the stock with three barrel keys which set on inlayed silver escutcheons which match escutcheons on the reverse. I can't say enough about the high quality of workmanship on this rifle. *SOLD*
Condition: Excellent with s small triangular shaped "Dutchman" on the obverse comb near the wrist checkering, possibly original to the gun but if not, done in period (see pictures).
