xxSOLDxx KENTUCKY RIFLE BUCKS COUNTY SCHOOL
Possibly by Andrew Verner
This is a wonderfully graceful Bucks County Pennsylvania rifle circa 1795-1810 has a full strong tiger maple stock, original American made flintlock and an octagon .50 caliber barrel. The rifle measures 59 inches overall with the barrel measuring 43 1/4 inches. The brass mounts have all of the classic Bucks County style and features except that the usual side opening patchbox is a two piece engraved patchbox with a bold finial seen in Bucks County rifles by Andrew Verner. The patchbox and its finial have classic Bucks Co. daisies engraved on it as well as and undulating beauty line around the edges. The toeplate/patchbox release also has the classic daisy engraved around the screw head. The patchbox catch opens from the spherical finial of the toe plate, again similar to Verner's work.. The strong tiger maple stock is raised and incise carved in the manner of Verner. This has a unique feature of having a stylized "Indian head" incise carved forward ot the trigger guard. This shows the close affiliation of early Bucks County rifles with the Lehigh School of rifles. The raised carving around the barrel tang is exceptional. The remainder of the carving-behind and forward of the cheekpiece and forward and around the end of the stock comb. **SOLD**
Condition: Excellent. The full tiger maple stock is complete and without any repairs what so ever and retains a deep original surface. The lock is in its original flint configuration and is probably American made.
