CHARLEVILLE MUSKET, Mod 1766
Work Horse of the Patriot Cause
This is a nice Charleville musket with features placing it in the "Model 1766" category. This particular variant was used extensively by both the American patriot armies as well as their French allies during the period 1778 to 1783. It sports a 6 3/8 inch long flintlock with bridle, all three barrel bands have locking springs, with the forward band having a backward sloping rear edge. The full stock is walnut. The lock and barrel sport a star * over a "D", inspection marks and the stock has a "D" stamped on the butt surface, again signifying a passed inspection. The musket measures 56 3/4 inches overall with a 44 3/4 inch barrel in .69 caliber.
Condition: This musket is in Good condition, having its original flintlock with "Charleville" partially visible and is in its original flintlock configuration. The only flaw to the stock is that it has been cracked through the wrist and neatly repaired probably in-period. (See last three pics.)
