xxSOLDxx Signed Altland Golden Age Raised Carved "Buck & Ball" Rifle
Raised Carved Rifle signed "J. Altland" in the black Excellent Condition.
Beautiful full tiger maple stocked flintlock buck and ball rifle by J. Altland of Orts Mill, York County Pennsylvania, circa 1805-1815. This rifle is in excellent, untouched condition with beautiful raised carving forward and behind the cheekpiece, around the barrel tang and behind the lock panel. There are raised carved, "molded" beauty lines running from the rear ramrod ferrule to the forward barrel key. The early flintlock was made by J. Altland himself and "J ALTLAND" is cast in a cartouche on the inside lock plate. I can't say enough about the beauty and condition of this rifle. SOLD
Condition: EXCELLENT as found condition with original surface to the stock as well as the brass. It has not been cleaned and there is no missing wood whatsoever. The brass has been unpolished since the percussion period. The lock has been expertly reconverted by Louie Parker. The wrist escutcheon plate is missing.
