Large French & Indian War Period Scrimshaw Powderhorn Circa 1755-1763
Beautiful French and Indian War Period powderhorn scrimshawed by the "Pointed Tree Artist". The horn measures 12 1/2" across the curve and 3 1/4" at the butt. The polychromed scrimshaw includes shooting soldier with a plume of smoke rising from the muzzle and a buck deer at the business end, running Indians, the iconic pointed trees, several buildings and a folky rendering of the Royal coat of arms consisting of a grinning lion and a unicorn with their masculinity in full view.
Condition: Excellent, normal wear, broken ring at the throat, a rare intact suspension tab at the butt and original patina to the horn and butt.
