AMERICAN MADE REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD SILVER HILTED OFFICERS SABER

Circa 1775-1780

This is a great American officer's cavalry saber which is in "as found" condition. It is just the way we like to find them, untouched since the 18th century with lots of oxidation (but not pitting) on the typical "flattie" American blacksmith made blade with no fullers or false edge. The typically American thin oxidized coin silver mounts include a rather narrow guard with the typical American rev war period tall quillon with small disk terminal . The plain tapered knuckle bow connects to the base of a flat oval pommel. The grip is American cherry and is neatly spiral carved with no evidence of ever having had a wire wrap. The saber measures 36 1/4 inches overall with the blade measuring 31 inches.
