AMERICAN SILVER MOUNTED DAGGER-ORIGINAL SHEATH
Circa 1820-1860
Interesting silver mounted American dagger with its original silver mounted leather sheath. The hand forged blade measures 7 inches and the knife measures 11 1/4 inches overall. The blade is peened over at the capstan and the rectangular (in cross-section) handle is composed of (probably) rosewood with a silver collar at the blade base as well as a silver cap and silver strips on all four chamfered corners. The original leather sheath is well made and also has a silver collar.
Condition: Good. The hand forged blade has salt and pepper oxidation with some pitting. The wood and silver handle has a 1/4" x 2" sliver out of it which has been filled with a filler to repair the damage (done in period). All of the silver is original and undamaged.
