FEDERAL PERIOD AMERICAN SABER SWORD

Signed "Sold by C&ID Wolfe New York"

This Federal Period cavalry saber measures 40 1/2 inches long overall with a 36 inch single fuller gold etched blade and dates from the first quarter of the 19th century.  The blade shows evidence of original blueing over 90% of the blade and each side sports 3 gold etched flourishes including a stand of shield, sword, spears, and a liberty cap.  This brass mounted stirrup guard saber sports a carved bone grip. It is stamped on the spine "Sold by C&ID Wolfe New York" which was a private purveyor of military supplies in New York City during the first quarter of the 19th century.

Condition:  Very good. The blade is untouched with scattered light rust pitting.  There are numerous tiny chips along the sword's edge.  The bone grip has two 1 1/2" stable closed cracks on one side and two small chips in the bond where the brass bow meets the rear of the grip (see pics).
