KENTUCKY RIFLE Signed "I. GEORG"

Jacob George, Greenwich Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania

This rifle dates circa 1820 and is in pristine condition, exhibiting its original early surface as well as its original flintlock in original configuration. This golden age rifle measures 45 inches overall with a 42 1/4 inch octagon barrel in .45cal. The full tiger maple stock has classic "Roman Nose" architecture and a deep mellow reddish brown patina.  The stock is strong curly maple and is uncarved except for a single beauty line incised along the length of the foreshock on either side. The stock does have four engraved brass inlays, including the neatly engraved wear plate between the trigger guard and the entry ferrule. The engraving there includes the scarce "liberty head' or "Lehigh Indian head", rendered in a very folky genre. Interestingly, there is also a face engraved on the toe-late finial.   The four piece brass patchbox is is typically Jacob George in design and engraving with his signature cursive "N" on the patch box lid and cameo engraved lines along all outer surfaces of the pb lid, side plates and finial, along with his typical "sawtooth" engraving.

Condition: Excellent, with no wood or other restoration. It is in original flintlock configuration and very old deep historic stock surface.
