PENNSYLVANIA / KENTUCKY PISTOL

Revolutionary War Period Dragoon Pistol Ca. 1776-1785

Although this pistol is stocked in walnut, an examination of the brass mounts convinces one that it is purely American in manufacture.  It measures 15 inches overall with a 9 1/4 inch British proofed and banded round .63cal smooth bore.  The full walnut stock has the distinctive and early features of Pennsylvania architecture.  The .63 cal round barrel exhibits commercial proofs circa 1742.  Its original lock features the early feature of an un-bridled frizzen and is signed "Wallis", a fourth quarter English gunsmith who supplied arms to the British military.  The brass mounts show distinctly American features such as the pointed brass sideplate, the trigger guard with an diamond finial which is the precursor to the arrowhead type found on early Lehigh County weapons, as well as the pointed rear ramrod ferrule, and a butt plate with an exaggerated and elongated finial, all purely American.

Condition:  Excellent with no wood restoration. The pistol has its original lock and is in its original flintlock configuration.  The sideuplate is hammered sheet brass and is possibly an in-period replacement.
