REV WAR AMERICAN HORSEMANS SABER
Rare Semi-Basket Hilt; Original Scabbard
This is a wonderful iron mounted American blacksmith-made basket hilt horseman's saber with its original leather scabbard. This sword measures 38 3/4 inches overall with a 33 3/4 inch hand forged "flattie" blade. The grip is American cherry and the semi-basket hilt guard is neatly hand forged with some neat folky file work. Its original hand stitched leather scabbard measures 32 5/8 inches. This saber is entirely blacksmith made and is in great condition for its age and use.
Condition: Very Good/Excellent. There is a 1/4 inch in-period chip in its blade (see pics). There is possible evidence that there was a third branch to the knuckle guard which was removed in period to allow for comfortable grip. The cherry grip has a 3" stable crack running from the guard back.
