Metis' Silk Embroidered Scout Jacket
This Metis' scout jacket is made of native tanned deer hide and is constructed using irregular machine stitching (trundle) and hand stitching with silk floral embroidery and dates to the third quarter of the 19th century. The Metis' were descendants of French fur traders and native American women who eventually became culturally a distinct tribe and were the traders among the Indian tribes. The Metis' women's products have a French influence and beautiful detailed silk embroidery rather than quill or beadwork became their trademark. **SOLD**
Condition: Excellent for its age. The deer hide is intact with no holes other than some minor seam separation and several patched holes which were undoubtedly the result of bullet or arrow piercings when the deer was harvested.
