xxSOLDxx AMERICAN PIPE AXE W/ FORGED HEAD FROM RIFLE BARREL
Original Ash Haft With Early Tacks
This is one of my favorite pipe tomahawks from the Lyman collection because it is in such untouched condition. I believe this pipe axe dates to the first quarter of the 19th century. The head is beautifully forged from a rifle barrel with a unique tulip shaped pipe bowl with a beauty line filed at the top, and double beauty lines filed at the base of the bowl, with a chevron saddle. The blade is a forged steel insert. The original ash haft is dry and untouched and has 28 early square shafted solid brass tacks (does not attract a magnet). There is evidence of the original deerskin gasket. The haft is 20" long, the head is 7 1/4", and the blade is 3 1/8" . **SOLD**
Condition: Excellent for its age and in untouched, as found condition. The ash haft is dry with some dry rot evident.
