xxSOLDxx. AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD PISTOL
Made in Pennsylvania Circa 1760-1780
This pistol was undoubtedly made in America, most probably in eastern Pennsylvania. The pistol measures 15 3/4 inches overall with a 9 3/4 inch octagon to round .56cal. barrel. The walnut stock is relief and incise carved, with nice relief floral carving around the barrel tang and incise carving around and behind the rear ramrod ferrule. I am tempted to attribute this pistol to Peter Berry Sr (1730-1795) because the carving is rather unique and closely follows in design (though simpler) the carving of a pair of Peter Berry pistols which were auctioned by James D. Julia in October of 2013, Lot 2305 (see last picture). Neither the barrel or lock have any identifying marks what-so-ever. The convex flintlock is original to the pistol and in its original flintlock condition. There are no markings on the inside plate of the lock. The brass mounts were probably imports, similar mounts were advertised in Philadelphia newspapers as early as 1754. **SOLD**
Condition: VG. There is no restoration to either the wood stock or metal, but the pistol has been cleaned.
