xxSOLDxx ANDREW KOPP RIFLE-SIGNED
Huntingdon County PA Rifle with 20 Engraved Silver Inlays Circa 1840
Andrew Kopp was born in 1781 in York County Pennsylvania and is listed as a gunmaker there in 1809 and 1810. In 1824 he moved his gunmaking business to Huntingdon County, PA. This rifle is 56 1/2" overall and has a strong tiger maple full stock in original surface and condition. The rifle is signed "A.Kopp" in script on the top barrel flat and on the original percussion lock. The octagon barrel measures 41 7/8" long and is .38 cal. with traces of rifling. The wonderfully engraved brass four piece patchbox has nine piercings. Most of the inlays are coin silver and are artistically engraved in the manner well known to Kopp, including the cheekpiece inlay with a wonderfully folky Federal eagle. The engraved German silver wear plate between the triggerguard and the rear ramrod ferrul has three piercings. The brass sideplate, toe plate and comb plate are also beautifully engraved as well. A Kopp masterpiece! **SOLD**
Condition: Excellent. Original surface, all wood intact, all inlays original. There is a very well done dutchman between the barrel tang and the lock, running from the tail of the lock up to the tip of the barrel tang forward to the barrel (1/2" wide x 2"). There is also the usual 1" crack running from the buttplate screw to the patchbox lid release.
