xxSOLDxx FLINTLOCK PISTOL ROCOCO Carved

Possibly stocked in America

This is a very interesting walnut full stocked rococo carved flintlock pistol.  This pistol has many Germanic characteristics as well as some American characteristics.  The pistol has no identifying markings whatsoever.  The deeply rococo engraved German flintlock is in its original flintlock configuration and has no markings, including nothing on the inside of the lockplate (German locks often have initials stamped on the inside of the lock plate identifying the locksmith).  The octagon to round 8 15/16" barrel in approximately .52cal and has no proof marks but has neat filework.  The two stages of the barrel are seperated by multiple filed bands.  The pistol is brass mounted with the triggerguard and entry ferrule being Germanic in design but the sideplate and buttcap have a distinctly American design seen on other American rifles and pistols.  In addition, the rococo raised and incise carved stock is very remeniscent of some early American rifles as well as certain German pistols.  I have photographed the pistol carving superimposed upon pictures of a rococo carved Isaac Haines rifle made in Lancaster PA.  The books picturing this rifle are "Artistic Ingredients of the Longrifle" by Joe K. Kindig III, Pg 74 & 75 and also "The LANCASTER LONG RIFLE" by Patrick Hornberger and John Kolar, Pg. 8 & 9., and "MASTERPIECES of th AMERICAN LONGRIFLE" by Patrick Hornberger and Joe Kindig III, Pgs. 46 & 47.**SOLD**

Condition:  Good.  Metal work is in excellent condition and most of the carved stock is crisp but there is repaired insect damage on the butt near the buttcap as seen in the pictures.  The buttcap is somewhat loose.  The ramrod pictured belongs to another pistol and is not included.  The ramrod included is a modern replacement.
