xxSOLDxx GOLDEN AGE KENTUCKY RIFLE ATTRIBUTED STOFFEL LONG
Profusely Incise Carved Allemengal School Kentucky Rifle Attributed to Stoffel Long.
Profusely incise carved Allemengal School Kentucky rifle attributed to Stoffel Long, Ca. 1825-1835, measuring 55 3/4" overall with a 40 5/8" full octagon barrel. This is about as folky yet elaborately carved a rifle as I have seen from this school. It has a very large "Liberty Head" (or if you are old school, "Indian Head") incise carving forward of the triggerguard, as well as incise/chip carving around the barrel tang, forward and behind the cheekpiece, on either side of the brass 2 piece patchbox, along the bottom stock edge, as well as behind and on either side of the rear ramrod ferrule. The stock architecture owes much to the Lehigh School with its Roman nose profile and flat sided forestock. The two piece patchbox has a semblance of a fleur de lay finial and rudimentary engraving, typical of Stoffel Long. The key clue to a Stoffel Long attribution is the double Federal shield carving incorporated in both the rear cheekpiece carving and the carving behind the rear ramrod ferrule. *SOLD*
Condition: Excellent, with a thick wax coating over the old finish. Flintlock has been reconverted.
