xxSOLDxx KENTUCKY RIFLE ATTRIBUTED TO JACOB ANGSTAT "The REVENANT" RIFLE

Folky Kutztown, Berks County Pennsylvania Flintlock Rifle circa 1820

Incise and relief carved  full stock flintlock Kentucky rifle with figured "Roman nose" maple stock, reliably attributed to Jacob Angstat (1783-1843).  This rifle features the typical two piece unengraved brass patchbox with the unusual feature of having incise carved parallel lines in the place of side plates.  There are triple incise carved parallel lines carved the length of the barrel on either side as well as the unusual identical carving along the "toe line". There is also incise "chip" carving around the barrel tang and relief, incise, and chip carved "C" scrolls behind the cheekpiece.  A very folky, quirky rifle from the area and family whose rifles are considered by serious collectors to be the "folkiest", "Dutchiest" of the Kentucky rifle makers.  Overall length is 55 inches with an octagon-to-round .48 caliber barrel being 39 1/4" long.

Contrary to the Hollywood version of Hugh Glass' ordeal, it is known the actual rifle used by Glass was an Angstat rifle similar to this fine rifle, not the Bucks County style rifle pictured in the recent movie "The Revenant".  Glass grew up near Kutztown Pennsylvania and carried an Angstat rifle out west.  In fact, Glass tracked down Jim Bridger TO RETREVE HIS ANGSTAT RIFLE, not to seek revenge for the death of his son.  Glass had no son.  You don't have to crawl several hundred miles to acquire this rifle...    **SOLD**

Condition:  Excellent condition.  Original red "fiddle finish" typical of Kutztown school rifles.  Original flintlock (but expertly reconverted).
