xxSOLDxx LARGE EARLY RIFLEMAN'S KNIFE
American Rifleman's hand forged knife with 13 1/4" clip point blade and old pigskin sheath.
This is a very long early American rifleman's knife which is 18 1/4" overall length and a 13 1/4" hand forged blade with a clip point. This is a typical backwoods forged rifleman's knife circa late 18th to mid 19th century. The somewhat crudely forged blade is 1/4" thick at the spine and the forged iron oval shaped crossguard is stamped "5". The blade tang runs through the round stag grip, and is peened over through a forged iron endcap. This knife is quite old and could be either late 18th century, or 19th century up to the Civil War. The pigskin sheath appears to be original and is well preserved. It is entirely possible that this backwoods hand forged knife is a product of the South during the Civil War, but it is equally probable that it was used by an Eastern frontiersman during an earlier period.
Condition: Excellent.
Note, this listing is for the riflemans knife and sheath only, the last picture illustrates some knives which will be listed in the future.
