xxSOLDxx Peter Kuntz Attributed Lehigh Rifle

Untouched and Excellent Condition Flintlock Rifle Circa 1820

Beautiful Peter Kuntz attributed fullstock flintlock rifle in original flintlock.  This rifle measures 55 3/4" overall, with a 40 5/8" full octagon rifled barrel in 50 caliber.  It has an original high quality waterproof roller frizzen English trade lock and a beautiful tiger maple full stock with original violin finish.  Architecturally this rifle is Lehigh County all the way with indented "drop" points behind the lock panel and the sideplate panel, flat panels on either side of the ramrod channel, as well as the signature stepped or double arc wrist typical of the Lehigh Valley.  The brass hardware is in old mustard colored surface and most mounts are wonderfully engraved. It has an beautifully engraved 4 piece patchbox in typical Kuntz design.  In addition to the "C" and "S" scroll engraving on the patchbox finial and sideplates, this rifle has a sitting collared dog, a dove holding a sprig symbolizing peace, and an eagle perched over the dove.  The Lehigh County type sideplate in a modified "arrowhead" design and is also engraved in typical Kuntz fashion, as are the brass and silver cheekpiece inlays.   A nearly identical rifle was sold at Julia's  October 15, 2013 auction, Lot 2382.  This rifle is its equal in condition and design with perhaps a heavier barrel. **SOLD**
