xxSOLDxx Silver Mounted Revolutionary War Sword
Silver Hilt Rev War Officers Cuttoe American or English
Silver mounted officers cuttoe of the type used by both American and English officers during the Revolutionary War. This sword has no restoration or damage. My suspicion is that this is American because the silver mounts have no markings whatsoever and are a rather simlified form of the common English types. The silver pommel has an embossed scallop shell above a "grinning lion's" mask. The blade is unmarked as well. The black spiral carved grip is made of horn. Overall length is 28 3/8 inches with a 23 1/8" blade. A nearly identical sword is pictured in George Neumann's book "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution", pg. 97, item # 106.S. Mr. Neumann dates this type sword Circa 1760. Unlike the sword pictured in Neuman's book, this sword does not have a chain knuckle guard and never had one. **SOLD**
Condition: Excellent. This sword has a mellow old patina and has not been cleaned.
