xxSOLDxxRAISED CARVED JACOB KUNTZ RIFLE

'This is a wonderfully raised carved full walnut stocked Jacob Kuntz golden age rifle.  This rifle exhibits the best quality carving and engraving that Kuntz is justifiably known for.  The rifle measures 53 1/2 inches overall with a 37 1/4 inch octagon barrel.  The barrel is original length, and the original flintlock has been skillfully reconverted back to flint.  The raised and incise carving is magnificant and is displayed forward and behind the cheekpiece as well as around the comb and in front of the four piece brass and bone patchbox.  There is also raised panel carving running the length of the lower buttstock and running the length of the ramrod channel.  The mountings are finely engraved brass with the unusual feature of engraved bone sideplates as well as the toeplate.  This bone inlay shows Kuntz's training in the Lehigh valley which feature is usually only found in the Lehigh Valley and Kutztown areas. The patchbox has finely engraved pierced brass finial and lid.  The lid has "J. K." boldly and finely engraved on it, indicating that this could possibly be his personal rifle.  In addition, there are three silver inlays on the stock, a small Federal shield on the comb, a finely engraved escutcheon plate behind the barrel tang, and finely engraved pierced "hunter's star"  within an oval, typical of Lehigh rifles of fine quality.  The rifle exhibits many other Lehigh features such as the star inlay on the cheekpiece, a sheathed heel plate, raised carving showing Christian's Spring influence, and an arrow shaped sideplate. **SOLD**

Condition:  Excellent (for its age). Untouched metal and wood surfaces.  As noted above, the lock has been skillfully reconverted back to flint.
