REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD AMERICAN SMALL SWORD
RARE Silver "Wagon Wheel" Hilted Design
This beautiful American officers or gentleman's small sword measures 38 inches overall with a 32 3/4 inch triangular blade. The blade is unmarked but has considerable original blueing and six panels of gold acanthus leaf etched flourishes. The silver hilt has a rare open spoke wagon wheel design counterguard with a tall arrow design quillon. The silver ball pommel is approximately 3/4 inches in diameter. The grip is beautiful spiral carved ivory with 1/2 inch silver ferrules. The silver knuckle bow has three closed branches more-or-less matching the wagon wheel design of the counterguard.
Condition: Excellent with no nicks or damage on blade, or entirety of the hilt. There is a very old well done restoration to the ivory grip measuring approximately 1 " back from the ferrule.
