REV WAR PERIOD AMERICAN SWORD $950.
Hand Forged Blacksmith Made "Flattie" Blade
This is a neat "provincially made" Sargeant's or militiaman's sword of the type found worn by volunteer militia men during the Revolutionary War period. In as much each American soldier was required to carry either a sword or axe, many of these local blacksmith made plain utilitarian yet effective swords were made and no two were alike. The sword measures 27 3/4 inches overall, with a 22 1/2 inch hand forged "flattie" blade, a turned maple grip with two bands of three each scribed "beauty lines", and a simple sheet brass "D" knuckle guard.
