REVOLUTIONARY WAR FLINT PISTOL CA 1760-1780

This is a very original American made flintlock pistol measuring 12 inches overall with a 6 3/8 inch .62cal octagon to round barrel. This brass mounted, walnut stocked pistol exhibits features which are associated with early Pennsylvania makers, such as neat incise rococo carving around the barrel tang and rear ramrod entry. This pistol is in original flintlock condition. The flintlock has a flat bevel edged plate which is completely unmarked, including on the inside of the plate. Early features of this pistol include a squared off barrel tang, a relatively large bore, the lock is without a bridle and the frizzen screw is internal and the frizzen spring finial is neatly filed into an acanthus leaf. The octagon to round unmarked barrel has beauty rings filed where the barrel transitions from octagon to round and then again half way between the transition point and the muzzle. The pistol is minimalist in that the carving is incised, the brass mounts are unengraved, the brass sideplate is in the early triangular form, and there is no entry ferrule. The flat raised panel along the forestock points to eastern  Pennsylvania, likely Bucks County area, as does the sheet brass ramrod ferrule and the two sided filed triggerguard. A neat Rev War Period officer type pistol.

Condition:  VG/EXC for its age and use. There is no restoration what-so-ever and all of the wood is intact, it is in its original flint condition with no replacements. There is a stable crack on the reverse forestock just above the single ramrod ferrule.
